Brighton would have been playing Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend but advancing in the FA Cup will see them face off with Manchester United in the cup semis at Wembley on Sunday. In the last two matches between these two sides, Brighton have emerged winners and they will be banking on their good shape ahead of this game to guide them to another victory. Brighton are coming from a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and as they come to Wembley, they will surely not be cowed by a Manchester United side they’ve done well against recently. In their last nine matches, Brighton have lost just once, and they have six wins in that run. Pascal Gross, who has scored three in the last two matches against United, will hope to heap on the Red Devils misery. Brighton’s 5-0 win over Grimsby Town in the last round in this competition is one of the six in. the last eight in which they scored two or more goals.
While Brighton had a free week to prepare for this game, Manchester United had a tough away trip to Sevilla in Spain and they suffered a heavy loss, going down 3-0. United will hope to bounce back here, but their run hasn’t been very convincing either, winning three and losing two of their last six matches. It is away from home that they’ve posted dismal results; Manchester United have suffered three defeats in their last five away matches. In these defeats, they’ve failed to score but conceded two or more goals. In those three losses on the road, Manchester United have conceded 12 goals. There’s no guarantee of a better defensive performance, given their two first choice central defenders are out with injuries.
Manchester United are hoping their second visit to Wembley this season ends as happily as their first when they lifted the League Cup. They come into this game on a poor run though, and meet a well-rested side with fewer absent players and a much better run. Our prediction for Brighton v Manchester United is for Brighton to win here.
